The term catechist is used in a broad sense to designate one who participates formally or informally in catechetical ministries. All members of a community of believers are called to share in this ministry by being witnesses to the faith--by echoing Christ in their lives.
Recognizing that Parents are the primary catechists for their children, we understand that the Family, as the domestic church, is the place where faith is planted and nurtured. We are committed to assist you in the cultivation of the on-going development of faith already begun in your homes. We encourage each individual to develop his /her personal gifts so as to recognize his/her full potential as a member of the Body of Christ.
We wish to offer children opportunities to establish a relationship with Jesus Christ by hearing and experiencing His words with the witness of their Church community.
For this purpose we will strive to:
Provide an environment where Gospel values are fostered.ide opportunities for prayer, reflection and liturgical celebrations to stimulate the student's relationship with Christ.
Provide intellectual challenges appropriate for each grade level.
Invite and encourage catechists from the parish community to participate in opportunities to update and deepen their faith, as witnesses of the Good News.
Offer sacramental preparation programs that invite family and parish participation.
Challenge our students to make the teachings of Jesus a part of their lives, serving their community, each in their own way, according to one's abilities.
It is evident we cannot do this alone. Together as a "Christian faith team" including the parish, the families, the catechists, the staff, and the students, we, by virtue of our Baptism, can profess and bring to fulfillment the values and promises of the Kingdom of God.

Adult Education
Third Thursday Series
The Third Thursday Series takes place on the third Thursday of the month. Each month will highlight a topic that is of interest to adults. Although this is a series, each monthly presentation is independent. Presentations begin at 7pm. Following the presentation, from about 8:30pm to 9pm, we will have time to socialize so that we can get to know each other better. Please bring a snack or dessert to share if you'd like.
Upcoming Dates for the Third Thursday Series
March 18, 2010 7PM Buried Treasure: Women in the New Testament
Author Joanne Turpin writes, "Buried treasure is a popular way of describing stories about women in the New Testament....Nevertheless, it is not too much to say that their dedication to Jesus and to the spread of his message after his death helped lay the foundation of Christianity.
This presentation will explore the women of the New Testament we find in the Gospels, in the Acts of the Apostles, and in Paul's letters.
Presenter: Kathy Filippelli, M.A., is the Associate Director for Catechist Certification of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. She is passionate about women's studies and looks forward to our "treasure hunt."
April 15, 2010 7PM A Reflection on the Resurrection Narratives
Alleluia! Christ is risen! This is a central belief in our Faith. There are several resurrection narratives in which Jesus' ministry continues--let's dig deeper.
Presenter Jackie Mallory, has a Master's Degree in Theology. She served as Director of Faith Formation in the Diocese of St. Petersburg from 1980 until her retirement four years ago. She is passionate about scripture and looks forward to spending an evening with us reflecting on the Resurrection Narratives.
May 20, 2010 7PM Sacred Parenting: Parents-Parish-Catholic Schools
Sacred Parenting is a shared responsibility. Parents are assured by the Church that they are the "first and foremost educators of their children." This can be a scary thought for many parents. The good news is that they are not in this alone. The "social capital" that our Church community offers can be both a guide and a comfort.
This workshop will explore the gifts that the parish and Catholic School/Center bring to the partnership with parents in raising children in the faith, and with a view to their "full, informed and active participation" in the life of the Church.
Presenter Brian Lemoi is the Diocesan Director for Evangelization and Lifelong Faith Formation for the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
Women's Bible Study meets on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 8:30 PM in the Education Building.
