Upcoming Dates for the Third Thursday Series
March 18, 2010 7PM Buried Treasure: Women in the New Testament
Author Joanne Turpin writes, "Buried treasure is a popular way of describing stories about women in the New Testament....Nevertheless, it is not too much to say that their dedication to Jesus and to the spread of his message after his death helped lay the foundation of Christianity.
This presentation will explore the women of the New Testament we find in the Gospels, in the Acts of the Apostles, and in Paul's letters.
Presenter: Kathy Filippelli, M.A., is the Associate Director for Catechist Certification of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. She is passionate about women's studies and looks forward to our "treasure hunt."
April 15, 2010 7PM A Reflection on the Resurrection Narratives
Alleluia! Christ is risen! This is a central belief in our Faith. There are several resurrection narratives in which Jesus' ministry continues--let's dig deeper.
Presenter Jackie Mallory, has a Master's Degree in Theology. She served as Director of Faith Formation in the Diocese of St. Petersburg from 1980 until her retirement four years ago. She is passionate about scripture and looks forward to spending an evening with us reflecting on the Resurrection Narratives.
May 20, 2010 7PM Sacred Parenting: Parents-Parish-Catholic Schools
Sacred Parenting is a shared responsibility. Parents are assured by the Church that they are the "first and foremost educators of their children." This can be a scary thought for many parents. The good news is that they are not in this alone. The "social capital" that our Church community offers can be both a guide and a comfort.
This workshop will explore the gifts that the parish and Catholic School/Center bring to the partnership with parents in raising children in the faith, and with a view to their "full, informed and active participation" in the life of the Church.
Presenter Brian Lemoi is the Diocesan Director for Evangelization and Lifelong Faith Formation for the Diocese of St. Petersburg.
